Abstract
THIS PROPOSAL IS FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT TO ASSESS THE PRACTICAL LIMITS OF COMPACT PACKAGING OF EFFICIENT LASER DIODE PUMPED SOLID STATE CRYSTALLINE AND GLASS LASERS AND THEIR DRIVE ELECTRONICS AND THERMAL PATHWAYS. AN ESSENTIAL OF THE PROPOSED PROGRAM IS THAT DEVICES THAT RESULT FROM IT MUST PRODUCT THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE QUALITY DIFFRACTION LIMITED GAUSSIAN OUTPUT LASER BEAMS. ANOTHER KEY OBJECTIVE OF THE PROPOSED PROGRAM IS TO ALLOW FOR THE GREATEST RANGE POSSIBLE OF CW, PULSED, MODULATED AND AMPLIFIED LASER BEAMS.
