Abstract
DIODE LASER PUMPED SOLID-STATE LASERS ARE EFFICIENT, COMPACT, ALL SOLID-STATE SOURCES OF COHERENT OPTICAL RADIATION. MAJOR ADVANCES IN THE LINEAR POWER DENSITY OF LASER DIODES HAVE RECENTLY OCCURRED. THIS IS A PROPOSAL TO INVESTIGATE AND DEMONSTRATE AN INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUE FOR USING THESE NEW HIGH BRIGHTNESS DIODES IN A SIMPLE AND EFFICIENT END PUMPED ARRANGEMENT TO MAKE ALL SOLID-STATE LASERS. THESE LASERS WOULD HAVE OUTPUT POWERS IN THE 1-10 WATT RANGE.
