Abstract
LightSpin Technologies, Inc. proposes to develop an innovative solid-state microchannel plate (SSMCP) detector for the focal plane of LIBS instruments. It is a true solid-state replacement for vacuum microchannel plate technologies such as those used in intensified CCDs, and will provide sensitivity down to single photons with 16 bits of dynamic range, quantum efficiency above 40%, and uncooled dark count rates around a kcps/pixel. The spectral response of 200 to 900 nm can be readjusted if necessary. No pre-amplification, high voltages or cooling are needed. Phase I will prove all risk factors. Phase II offers a 1D array of 1024 pixels at 25 um pitch, each pixel being 2.5 mm high.
