Abstract
The Virtual Environment Training for Battlefield Medical Personnel (VETBMP) project is the development of a simulation architecture designed to integrate procedural simulations, intelligent tutoring, and various sensory input devices to create a realistic training scenario for 'forward' military personnel. Phase I of VETBMP will be a simulation of a standard medic task (intravenous infusion), embedded in a continuous-feedback intelligent tutoring architecture (Intelligent Computer Aided Training). Due to the system architecture, various sensory input devices can be integrated into the VETBMP, including: visual, auditory, haptic, and olfactory devices as each of these technologies reaches maturity.
