Abstract

Hearing impairment due to primary blast injury is a significant issue for military personnel. A leading cause for reduced auditory function following blast exposure is the presence of a tympanic membrane perforation. The current standard of care for tympanic membrane repair requires an operating room and general anesthesia, which leads to high patient costs and prolonged time to treatment for servicemembers. Triton Systems, Inc., in collaboration with experts in the field, propose to further develop a minimally invasive, rapid, and effective method for repairing tympanic membrane perforations in-office with standard tools in Phase II. Furthermore, the novel treatment is designed to cater to the functional needs of the auditory system, thereby offering improved patient outcomes.
