Abstract

Triton Systems, Inc. will develop a family of blood transportation containers that range from man-portable containers to transport up to 2 units of blood up to larger containers to transport up to 40 units and are suitable for shipping on military aircraft. There will be intermediate sizes with some overlap in capacity. Blood products will be maintained at viable temperatures for a minimum of 10 days. Temperature datalogging will be provided to document the temperature history of a shipment and that will provide an alert when containers are in danger of exceeding the allowable storage temperature. We plan to investigate both non-powered technology and low-power cooling technology to achieve the best cooling performance while minimizing size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C). Designs will reflect the likely modes of transportation (dismounted warfighter, ground vehicle, aircraft, UAV, etc.) and focus on protection of the blood products.
