Abstract

Dignitas and our partner, Cognitics, conducted a feasibility study, determined use cases, and developed a detailed system design to include geo-referenced cyber data in an enhanced situational awareness for Special Operations Forces (SOF) operators within existing Mission Command Systems (MCSs). Our completed Phase I effort defined a flexible architecture that leverages microservices to accomplish the various functions necessary to integrate cyber into a geospatial common operating picture. Our design includes microservices for aggregation of cyber data from various cyber sensors or other sources, classification and storage of cyber data, and transforming and delivering aggregated cyber data to the SOF MCS Common Operating Picture (COP). We build upon our analysis, design, and prototyping efforts to develop, install, and demonstrate the prototype system that was determined to be the most feasible solution during our Phase I feasibility study. The prototype system, which we term CyberCOP, will integrate cyber assessment, monitoring, and exploitation tools with existing and emerging SOF MCS/COP at tactical, operational, and strategic levels. We continually refine and expand our CyberCOP prototype from feedback received by SOF team members as we participate in hands on assessments and evaluations in operationally realistic environments, ensuring that our developed capabilities provide benefit to SOF mission planning and execution operations and enhance SA, resulting in information advantage for the SOF team.
