Abstract

The overarching objective of the proposed research and development work is to create a new type of our miniature, autonomous, explosive-driven high-power microwave source that provides multiple radiation pulses. Each system will be a complete unit that will include all components necessary for operation: a miniature explosive-driven primary power source (the ferroelectric generator, or FEG), an ultra-miniature power-conditioning system, and a deployable antenna. The overall diameter of the systems will be 25 mm or less, because they are to be used to increase the lethal range, to increase the scope of the target set, and to enhance the destructive capability of small caliber munitions as requested by topic A07-188, Power Conditioning for Explosive Pulsed Power for Missiles and Munitions, contained in the U.S. Army Solicitation 07.3. These autonomous systems will be simple, reliable in operation, inexpensive and easily produced.
