AbstractThe objective of Makel Engineering's proposal is to develop a multi-tasked microsensor based system capable of monitoring hydraulic fluid performance along with data acquisition systems and communication protocol for preventative maintenance and diagnostics. Along with Phase II partners Rockwell Automation, Lubrizol, Ford Motor Company, and Case Western Reserve University, Makel Engineering, Inc. (MEI) will deliver a fully functional prototype system that combines the most effective suite of sensing capabilities from the range of conductivity, total acid number (TAN), viscosity, wear metals, and contaminant measurements. The data provided by this portable diagnostic system will be applicable to relational databases such as those developed by the Army Oil Analysis Program. The system will tie fluid measurements to each vehicle and use this information in oil life prognostics for improved operational availability, and the automated process will reduce bookkeeping burden and potential operator error.
