Abstract
THIS PROJECT ADDRESSES A NOVEL APPROACH FOR DEVELOPING AN EFFICIENT AND COST-EFFECTIVE PULSE JET ATOMIZER FOR ATOMIZATION OF COAL-BASED MIXTURES, BY UTILIZING A MODERATE FREQUENCY (1,500 TO 3,000 HZ), HIGH INTENSITY OSCILLATING FIELD (140 TO 165 DB) SUPERIMPOSED ON A STEADY JET TO PROVIDE THE REQUIRED ENERGY. IN PHASE I, SPECIFIC EXPERIMENTS ARE BEING CONDUCTED ON A PROPRIETARY T-BURNER DESIGN TO DETERMINE ITS FEASIBILITY AND CHARACTERISTICS FOR FUEL ATOMIZATION. THE HIGH INTENSITY ACOUSTIC FIELDS (140 TO 165 DB) GENERATED BY THE T-BURNER WERE ACHIEVED AT A HIGHER INPUT TO ACOUSTIC ENERGY EFFICIENCIES (10 TO 15%) THAN ANY OTHER SOUND GENERATING DEVICES. PULSE JET ATOMIZATION WILL ALSO RESULT IN ENHANCED MIXING, FUEL PREHEATING, AND DEVOLATILIZATION, AND IMPROVED FLAME STABILITY AND TURNDOWN RATIOS. PHASE I TEST DATA WILL PROVIDE A BENCHMARK FOR EVALUATING THE EFFICIENCY AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS APPROACH FOR ATOMIZATION OF COAL-SLURRY MIXTURES.
