Abstract
THIS PROJECT IS FOCUSED UPON RESOLVING THE INCOMPLETE COMBUSTION PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED IN RESIDENTIAL WOOD STOVES DUE TO LOW COMBUSTION TEMPERATURES, UNCONTROLLED AIR DRAFT RATES, VARIABILITY IN WOOD FUEL AND MOISTURE. A PROTOTYPE RETROFIT KIT IS TO BE FABRICATED AND TESTED TO DEMONSTRATE THE FEASIBILITY OF THE DEVICE AS AN INEXPENSIVE, EASILY INSTALLABLE AND OPERABLE EMISSIONS CONTROL DEVICE THAT WILL BE CAPABLE OF REDUCING THE EMISSIONS OF CARCINOGENS, CO- CARCINOGENS, MUTAGENIC ACTIVITY, AND OTHER ORGANICS BY WILL OVER 90%, ELIMINATING ABOUT ALL OF THE TOXICS, CO AND UNBURNED HYDROCARBONS. THE RETROFIT KIT WILL INCLUDE AN ACOUSTIC AFTER-BURNER CONBUSTOR, INSULATION AND FINNED SURFACES FOR RECOUPING HEAT FROM THE AFTER-BURNER. THE FEASIBILITY STUDY WILL BE BOTH EXPERIMENTAL AND ANALYTIC WITH THE ANALYTIC PORTION USED TO OPTIMIZE PERFORMANCE AND COST FOR PHASE II LONG-DURATION TESTS DESIGNED FOR OBTAINING UNDERWRITER APPROVAL FOR MANUFACTURE AND SALE.
