Abstract
AN INNOVATIVE , COMBUSTION METHOD USING A COAL-MELT ATOMIZERIS PROPOSED. THIS COMBUSTION METHOD MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR COMPLETE CARBON UTILIZATION AND SIMULTANEOUS CONTROL OF NOX,SO2, AND PARTICULATE MATTER FOR NEW UNITS AND RETROFIT SIT UATIONS FOR REPLACING OIL AND GAS IN EXISTING UNITS. MANAGEMENT AND TECHNICAL CONSULTANTS INC. (MTCI) PROPOSES TO USE A PULSE BURNER TO WHICH MELTED COAL WILL BE FED AS FINELY DIVIDED DROPLETS OF ABOUT 2 TO 10 MICRONS IN SIZE , BY A COAL-MELT ATOMIZER THAT HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATED AT THE JET PROPULSION LABORATORY. SULFUR CAPTURE ADDITIVES WILL BE ADDED TO THE COMBUSTOR TO TRAP THE SO2 AS CASO4. THEPULSE COMBUSTOR DEVELOPED BY MTCI HAS ALREADY SHOWN THE POTENTIAL FOR LOW N0X GENERATION. PULSE COMBUSTOR ASPIRATES ITS OWN AIR; THUS WILL NOT NEED FORCED DRAFT FANS OR BLOWERS. THE COAL-MELT ATOMIZER WILL ACCEPT CRUSHED COAL AS FEED AND WOULD NOT NEED PULVERIZERS. THUS, THIS IS A SYSTEM THAT COMBINES THE BEST FEATURES OF A HIGHLY EFFICIENT PULSE COM- BUSTOR AND THE UNIQUE CAPABILITY OF THE COAL-MELT ATOMIZER TO ENABLE THE PULSE COMBUSTOR TO PERFORM WITH SIMULTANEOUS CONTROL OF CERTAIN PARTICULATE MATTER I.E. NOX AND SO2.
