Abstract
The development of highly reliable Band IVa (3.9 to 4.1µm) Quantum Cascade Lasers delivering continuous wave optical power exceeding 5W in a nearly Gaussian output beam (M2 < 1.5) with wallplug efficiency exceeding 15% is roposed. New devices will find immediate applications in a very diverse set of critical DoD applications, including DIRCM, infrared beacons, target designators, illuminators, remote powering of electrical devices, and free space optical communications.
