Abstract
Neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Nd-YAG) crystals are currently being used in lasers for defense and civilian applications. Single crystals are expensive and limited to a few inches in diameter and also do not fully meet the extreme service requirements in many critical applications. Polycrystalline Nd-YAG can be prepared economically and in various shapes and sizes. In this Phase II SBIR effort, Materials Modification, Inc. will scale-up the synthesis process developed during Phase I and refine the fabrication process to yield materials with a high degree of transmittance.
