Abstract
There are several techniques which can improve the performance of ASTROS. Among these are three that MAST will evaluate and commence implementation of: Improved optimization techniques using both gradient and nongradient based techniques suchas genetic algorithms, simulated annealing and the hybrid algorithm genetic annealing. Use of nonlinear Navier-Stokes based CFD codes to better model high angle of attack, transonic and hypersonic flow. Use of parallel computing which will exploit wither the IBM SP/2 message passing system or Parallel Virtual Machine.
