Abstract
MaXentric’s Advanced Mapping and Positioning System (AMPS) uses sensor fusion to perform terrain recognition. Knowledge of terrain is crucial information for both human and robotic systems, as ability exert actions on the environment depends on being able to navigate through it. AMPS serves as additional “eyes and ears” for humans when they explore environments where time, resources, or safety limitations preclude careful observation of the environment. This ability to augment both human and robotic sensing is highly valuable for both Department of Defense and Commercial market needs. In the DOD market, AMPS can reduce uncertainties about the enemy and the battlefield environment and enable advanced functionality such as autonomous surveillance and intelligent movement to support mobile ad-hoc networks. In the commercial market, AMPS is an invaluable asset for realizing location based mobile services such as robotic assistance in emergency response for earthquakes, fires, and mine rescues; interactive Homes/Offices, where electronics self-position and detect functionality based on neighboring devices; and robotic Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) for intelligent collaborative behavior.
