Abstract
There is a need for a simple, affordable method for measuring domoic acid in the field. This project will develop a rapid, onsite kit for domoic acid featuring a filter membrane that produces a readable color response without need for instrumentation. The filter membrane contains three or more zones with different assay characteristics in close proximity. These zones will indicate different concentrations of domoic acid by a variation in color intensity on the membrane. A modified inkjet printer will be used for the low cost production of immunoassay membranes. Phase I will focus on: 1) Production of two or more anti-domoic acid antibodies with different detection limits. 2) Use of a modified inkjet printer to deposit controlled quantities of antibodies in precise zones on a membrane. 3) Demonstration of domoic acid detection on these membranes Phase II will incorporate the membranes into a commercially available onsite test kit.
