AbstractMesoScribe Technologies, in conjunction with OEM partner Pratt and Whitney Aircraft will instrument gas turbine engine components with embedded thermocouples and strain sensors using the Company's Direct Write process. Phase I will focus on validating sensor performance on the instrumented components during fluidized bed testing at P&W. The Phase I project will provide a foundation for rig testing and high pressure engine testing to be conducted during Phase II. Sensors will be designed for specific aerospace components and developed on a system level with the future goal of integrating power harvesters and wireless communications hardware.BENEFITS: The ability to monitor the state awareness of critical aircraft engine components and structures is invaluable. Sensors that can survive the engine environment and accurately measure temperature, strain, wear, and damage is crucial to forecasting component lifetime and assuring the safety of the aircraft. MesoScribe has developed strategic partnerships with OEM's, Defense Laboratories, and commercial end-users. Specific applications of interest include turbine components, compressor components, thermal protection systems, space structures, and airframe structures.
