AbstractIn this project, MetroLaser proposes to develop a conceptual design for a prototype time-sequential multi-perspective, autostereographic display (ASD). This system will have multiple stereoscopic viewing zones over an extended field of view. The envisioned architecture for the ASD will extend the capabilities of the display, so that 3-D images can be seen by multiple viewers. A combination of time multiplexing and modular use of multiple optical trains make the proposed system capable of serving multiple users by generating a cylindrical display. Within Phase II, we will expand upon our successfully implemented Phase I display, employing refinement of the optical train and computer system in conjunction with development of a high bandwidth communication channel with the display spatial light modulator to eliminate transfer bottlenecks. The display system module to be built will provide high quality 3-D imagery without the need for glasses, goggles, or other viewing aids. A display module will be built and delivered to the Air Force for evaluation. During Phase II, MetroLaser will identify and collaborate with potential commercial partners. Ultimately, a commercial system will be built that will provide multi-user interactivity at near real-time speeds.
