Abstract

Triton Systems, Inc. (developer of breakthrough technologies and products) and our academic partner propose an innovative approach to incorporate RF transparent windows, conformal antenna technology, and supporting apertures on gun-launched smart projectiles with hypersonic capability.  Our conceptual design combines a novel hypersonic-proven RF transparent window with an innovative approach to deposit conformal antennas on complex surfaces.   In Phase I, Triton will perform a proof-of-concept study to determine the feasibility of our RF transparent window and aperture assembly designs. We will deliver a report documenting the final proposed conceptual design with a detailed description and analysis of both expected thermal and mechanical loads at the conclusion of the effort.  In Phase II, Triton will deliver two prototype radome/antenna assemblies containing our prototype antenna apertures, in an existing large caliber projectile form factor, with our proposed integrated RF transparent window or thermal protection system (TPS) solution. We will demonstrate launch survivability of our window materials. We will also conduct multi-minute, extreme thermal testing of our window/aperture assemblies to include electromagnetic measurements during testing.  Triton will coordinate with prime contractors and all service components to fully develop, integrate, and test the performance and survivability characteristics of our design for integration into extended-range Army platforms and joint development efforts.
