Abstract

Bacterial infections are particularly significant for military personnel in situations where there may be a long delay between the injury and treatment at a hospital or clinic. The development of an effective, portable light-based system which can operate in both military hospitals and far-forward situations is proposed. Proof-of-principle will be demonstrated by constructing a bench top level, light-based system that is effective at eliminating MDR pathogens under the expected conditions. Our team will demonstrate the effectiveness of our design against MDR bacterial strains to ensure the device operates as intended, reduces pathogen viability as effectively as current antimicrobial technologies, and does not damage or target surrounding tissue.
