Abstract

For this Sequential Phase II SBIR, Vcom3D will further develop an Advanced Female Trauma Training System (AFTTS) with realistic female anatomy, physiology, and behaviors and advance technical readiness toward product commercialization. The AFTTS includes a Female Trauma Manikin, tablet-based virtual equipment that can be reconfigured to represent varying levels of austerity, and a tablet-based Virtual Instructor/Assessment system that communicates wirelessly with the manikin. New simulation capabilities needed for Prolonged Casualty Care will be added to the system, including chest tube and urine catheter insertion and monitoring, as well as tourniquet placement and management with haptic feedback. The AFTTS will include sensors that measure the student’s performance and also provide data to an embedded processor that runs real-time physiology models based on the BioGears open-source Physiology Engine. Alternatively, the instructor will be able to record observed performance. In both cases, learner actions will affect patient outcomes and be recorded to a Learning Record Store, where they may be further analyzed.
