Abstract

The Navy seeks development and demonstration of durable, long-life, modernized Fan-Coil Assembly (FCA), while reducing required motor horsepower, lowering noise levels, using less chilled water flow than legacy FCA units, maintaining or improving weight/volume requirements, providing greater standardization, and lowering overall life cycle as well as maintenance costs. Triton Systems will design a modernized FCA with the same performance, with less required power, less noise, lower weight, improved reliability, improved maintainability, redundancy, and increased speed variability. The package consists of variable speed fan and controller, required air filtration, thermal insulation, acoustic insulation, a common open protocol control system, and a chilled water-cooling coil.  The FCA includes a compact, light, and efficient, drive system, resulting in an acoustically compliant package.  The unit design will occupy the same geometric footprint as the current FCA design. Mechanically the system will be subject to system performance specification, MIL-PRF-23798D, and tested to address shock, vibration, electromagnetic interference, performance testing, airborne testing, structure borne vibration testing, motor testing, and electrical power interface testing
