Abstract

Vadum will develop Kill Assessment for Raids using Modeling and simulation-based Analysis (KARMA), an innovative algorithmic capability to rapidly and efficiently detect and count raids of Closely Spaced Objects (CSO) in naval engagements. KARMA will perform CSO raid counting (RC) and kill assessment (KA) on an electro-optic and infrared (EO/IR) platform designed to support the Ship Self Defense System (SSDS). The KARMA implementation will aid in defining concepts of operations (CONOPs) including EO/IR sensor requirements, tactical operational boundaries and engagement timeline requirements. Current radar defense systems cannot accurately count CSO, leading to uncertain knowledge of the number of engagements required for ship defense. KARMA will identify sensors, platforms and CONOPs capable of providing timely, accurate and actionable information on threat numbers and status, leading to optimal engagement decision making and increased survivability.
