Abstract
WE WILL INVESTIGATE THE ABILITY OF OLIGODEOXYNUCLEOTIDES COMPLEMENTARY TO THE SPLICED LEADER SEQUENCE OF LEISHMANIA ENRIETTII TUBULIN MRNA'S TO INHIT TRANSLATION AND TO KILL THE CELLS IN CULTURE. VARIOUS CHEMICAL MODIFICATIONS WILL BE MADE TO ENHANCE THE EFFECT OF THE OLIGOS. SUCCESSFUL AGENTS MAY BE VALUABLE, SELECTIVE CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC AGENTS AGAINST OTHER LEISHMANIA SPECIES IF MAD COMPLEMENTARY TO MRNA LEADERS FROM THOSE SPECIES.
