Abstract
The development of distributed power systems using energy harvesting is proposed. Energy is dynamic structural deformations will be harvested with structurally mounted piezoelectric crystals. The harvested energy will be stored in batteries orconditioned to be used as a direct power source for remote sensors and systems. The energy harvesting and battery storage functions will be integrated with the structure to optimize the system. The power system can also power the hardware that willtransmit the sensor data. A local network based on the Bluetooth standard is proposed.In Phase I of this project, it was shown that piezoelectric materials could harness energy from structural vibrations and stored in thin film lithium ion batteries that were embedded into a composite structure.
