Abstract
THE OVERALL GOAL OF THIS RESEARCH PROJECT IS TO DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF USING CONTRAST AGENTS FOR NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RESONANCE (NMR) IMAGING. SPECIFICALLY, NITROXIDES OF VARYING STRUCTURE WILL BE SYNTHESIZED. EACH PROTOTYPE AGENT WILL BE STUDIED FROM A PHARMACOKINETIC, DISTRIBUTION, AND METABOLIC STANDPOINT. THOSE NITROXIDES WITH SUITABLE PROPERTIES WILL BE FURTHER INVESTIGATED FOR THEIR ABILITY TO ENHANCE THE NMR IMAGE IN VIVO USING A 1.5 T NMR IMAGER.
