Abstract
THE TRANSFER OF TISSUE CULTUIRED PLANTS FROM IN VITRO TO OPEN GREENHOUSE ENVIRONMENTS IS FREQUENTLY A MULTI-STAGED, LABOR INTENSIVE PROCESS THAT CAN RAISE PRODUCTION COSTS TO COMMERCIALLY PROHIBITIVE LEVELS. RESEARCH IS UNDERWAY TO TEST THE FEASIBILITY OF DEVELOPING A CONSOLIDATED, COST- EFFECTIVETRANSFER PLUG SYSTEM THAT WILL ALLOW PLANTS TO BE TRANSFERRED, ROOTED, INOCULATED WITH BENEFICIAL MYCORRHIZAL FUNGI AND NITROGEN-FIXING BACTERIA AND GROWN TO FIELD-READY SIZE WITH A SINGLE MANIPULATION OF INDIVIDUAL SHOOTS.
