An Expert Proedural Reasoning System for Facilitating the CFD Process

The use of CFD in the design and analysis of flight vehicles requires specialized knowledge about factors such as algorithm options, gridding methods, physical models, and runtime performance. This knowledge is needed to properly set up a calculation and to monitor the solution during execution of the code. The objective of this work is to create an intelligent software environment that will assist CFD users of all ability levels in setting up and running CFD codes. A knowledge base of expert rules and procedures will be incorporated within an intelligent advisory and monitoring system to meet this objective. The advisory system will assist users in selecting input parameters that are consistent with a given CFD code and engineering situation. Assistance in the choice of code or detailed explanatory information will also be provided as needed. The monitoring function will implement analytical methods for tracking the flow solution in order to identify potential problems during run time. The goal of this system is to facilitate the CFD design/analysis yale by minimizing the risks associate with improper input parameters, assisting in the deary deacon of errors, reducing the need for labor intensive manual checks during execution, and improving user training.
