Abstract
Surface cleaning is extremely important in that it removes common surface contaminants such as loose metal oxides, oils, dirt, etc. that have deleterious effects on the wetting and adhesion of subsequently applied coatings. However, during the cleaning process, matrix dealloying and redeposition of copper, which have been shown to be sites for corrosion initiation. Nomadics will use custom synthesized chelating additives, which have high affinity to copper ions, to prevent the formation of copper "islands." This will reduce corrosion. The process will be easy to apply without undesirable environmental impact.
