Abstract
Reliable high speed data transfer between subsystems in aerospace, military and commercial applications requires both high speed tranceiver circuitry and galvanic signal isolation. Low voltage differential signaling (LDVS) is an ideal solution for thetransceiver circuit implementation. This technology simultaneously meets the high speed, low power, noise immunity and design flexibility requirements for high performance proprietary data busses. Unfortunately, until now the associated galvanic isolatinfunction has bee provided by bulky, discrete transformations. In this phase II effort, NVE proposes to monolithically integrate their existing high spped magnetoresistive signal isolators with radiation tolerant silicon LVDS circuitry to yield a family oftiny, galvanically isolated LVDS components. These LVDS components will include single channel transceovers. four-channel line drivers and four-channel receivers. In addition a multi-chip module will be developed which integrates and ultra-miniaturedc-dc convertor with the isolated LVDS transceiver to provide self-contained, bi-directional isolated data transmission. All of these isolated components will operate at speeds greater than four hundred megabits per second while offering size and poweradvantages relative to existing technologies. This will free up valuable board space, weight and power for other systems.Faster, longer distance and more reliable buss communications in computer systems and subsystems will be enabled with high speedisolated LVDS tranceiver chipset. This development can be used by any commercial, industrial or military computer system or subsystems manufacturer witht he need for high rates of data transfer.
