Abstract
MANY METHODS HAVE BEEN TRIED TO INCREASE THE USE OF SAFETY BELTS BY CHILDREN BUT EDUCATION SEEMS TO BE THE MOST PROMISING. STUDENTS UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY BELT USE WHEN THEY UNDERSTAND THE PHYSICS OF CRASHES. THEY ALSO VISUALIZE PHYSICS CONCEPTS BETTER WHEN A DRAMATIC AND REALISTIC EXAMPLE IS USED, SUCH AS THE DIFFERENCE IN CRASH CONSEQUENCES WHEN SAFETY BELTS ARE WORN. VIDEO TAPE IS REGARDED AS A VALUABLE MEDIUM FOR TEACHING ABOUT THINGS THAT MOVE. WHEN USING A MANUAL ALONG WITH THE VIDEO TAPE OR USING AN INTERACTIVE VIDEO TAPE, THE STUDENTS ARE ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN LEARNING. THIS PROJECT WILL PRODUCE VIDEO TAPES AND WORKBOOKS FOR THREE GRADE LEVELS, WHICH CAN BE USED IN GRAMMAR SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE CLASSES TO SIMULTANEOUSLY TEACH CERTAIN BASIC PHYSICS CONCEPTS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY BELTS. ONE OF THESE VIDEO TAPES WILL INCLUDE AN INTERACTIVEELEMENT. WE WILL TEST WHICH METHOD (THE INTERACTIVE VIDEO TAPE, THE REGULAR VIDEO TAPE ALONG WITH THE WORKBOOK, OR THEWORKBOOK ALONE) IS MOST EFFECTIVE IN TEACHING CHILDREN ABOUTTHE PHYSICS OF CRASHES AND THE IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY BELTS IN THE PREVENTION OF SERIOUS INJURIES.
