AbstractOpTech proposes to develop a computer-based, integrated workplace risk assessment and workplace risk management decision support tool for use by design teams in evaluating candidate design configurations related to the maintenance functions of large-scale systems. Further, OpTech proposes to combine this decision support tool with existing CAD-based human engineering and modeling technologies. In Phase I, we proposed to (1) identify previous research and development work that has value to add in the conceptualization and development of a design review tool to aid in the evaluation of workplace risk in a system maintenance and support environment, (2) to perform a review of existing human engineering analysis technologies used to support design and maintenance activity evaluations, (3) to assess the availability to standards, guidelines, and health effects data for physical and chemical agents, (4) to develop and demonstrate technical and analytical approaches to perform their assigned functions within generalized models for risk assessment and management (including demonstrating feasibility), and (5) to determine an overall best feasible approach to develop the Worplace Risk Advisor and Human Factors Design Evaluation for maintenance processes.
