Abstract
ADVANCED COMPUTER-AIDED TECHNIQUES TO DETERMINE VEHICLE CLASS AND SPEED ARE REQUIRED FOR ADVANCED INTELLIGENT VEHICLE HIGHWAY SYSTEM'S APPLICAITONS. ORINCON IS PROPOSING TO DEVELOP A NOVEL SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE USING DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING (DSP) ALGORITHMS IN CONJUNCTION WITH A NEURAL NETWORK CLASSIFIER TO PROCESS DATA FROM EXISTING VEHICLE DETECTION HARDWARE. OUR DESIGN CRITERIA WILLINCLUDE COST, COMPLEXITY, AND SYSTEM PERFORMANCE IN ORDER TO MAXIMIZE THE DEVELOPMENT OF FIELD-DEPLOYABLE HARDWARE.
