PSR proposes to design an image relay system for mid-infrared (2 - 4.8 micron) sensors. Novel diffractive faceplates coupled with a coherent fiber optic bundle will allow a mid-infrared (MIR) focal plane array (FPA) sensor to be located 10 meters from the objective lens. The feasibility study will consider reimaging optics to match the image field with the fiber bundle and the MIR FPA. The FPA aspect and size will be addressed, as will techniques to improve the throughput of the coherent fiber bundle. Proprietary techniques to reduce the signature of the sensor are also proposed. Fiber materials, relay optics and diffractive optics (DO) elements will be reviewed, and commercial components will be used where possible. Past PSR experience with MIR coherent fiber bundles will be useful in this application.
