Abstract
THE PURPOSE OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO DEVELOP A PORTABLE PRESSURE PULSE DELIVERY SYSTEM TO AMELIORATE THE SYMPTOMS OFMENIERE'S DISEASE AND POSSIBLY RELATED DISORDERS. IN PHASE I, EFFORTS WILL BE DIRECTED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE DEVICE ITSELF. IN THIS PHASE, THE PRIMARY COMMITMENT WILL BE TO DEVELOP THE ELECTRODYNAMIC PRESSURE GENERATOR THAT WILL DELIVER THE CONTROLLED LEVELS AND RATES OF POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE PRESSURE PULSES TO THE PATIENT'S EAR CANAL. THE INSTRUMENT WILL BE CAPABLE OF DELIVERING THE PRESSURE PULSES NEEDED FOR THE INITIAL CLINICAL TRIALS AND ALSO BE FLEXIBLE TO ALLOW FOR ANY SUBSEQUENT MODIFICATIONS REQUIRED. IN PHASE II, THE CLINICAL TRIALS AND MINIATURIZATION OF THE DEVICE WILL BE ADDRESSED, AS WELL AS PREPARATION FOR MASS MARKETING.
