Abstract

Advanced technology for adaptive structures is being developed which enable advancements in distributed control and sensing for application to active suppression of ship noise in Naval operations. Advanced control systems for wide band cancellation of ship borne noise as well as reduction of reflected acoustic energy from echo ranging are considered for evaluation. Advanced methods in modern control theory will be applied to evaluate alternative control architectures, discriminate performance potential of candidate control algorithms, and to guide the development of a new class of adaptive algorithms for wide band noise suppression. Predictive evaluation of noise suppression performance based on radiated acoustic energy will be performed in concert with the control system analysis.
