Abstract
PHYSICAL SCIENCES INC. PROPOSES TO INVESTIGATE VARIOUS MIXEDMETAL OXIDES AS DUAL FUNCTION ALKALINE OXYGEN ELECTROCATALYSTS. IN PARALLEL, WE PROPOSE NOVEL APPROACH FOR PREPARING THESE MATERIALS IN HIGH SURFACE AREA FORM STARTING FROM THE CONVENTIONALLY PRODUCED LOW SURFACE AREA MATERIALS. THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS PROGRAM WOULD CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN INTEGRATED ALKALINE REGENERATIVE FUEL CELL ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM WITH DECREASED WEIGHT AND VOLUME. AS A MINIMUM, IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT IMPROVED OXYGEN EVOLUTION ELECTROCATALYSTS AND OXYGEN REDUCTION ELECTROCATALYST SUPPORTS WILL BE IDENTIFIED FOR A DEDICATED REGENERATIVE ALKALINE ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM. BOTHSYSTEMS HAVE APPLICATIONS FOR NASA SPACE POWER REQUIREMENTS.
