Abstract
WE PROPOSE TO USE LARGE SCALE COMPUTER SIMULATION TECHNIQUES TO DEVELOP A THEORETICAL CAPABILITY FOR THE REALISTIC MODELING OF CONCENTRATED SLURRY RHEOLOGY AND STABILITY. THE IMMEDIATE APPLICATION IS THAT OF BORON/HYDROCARBON SLURRIES. WE WILL EXTEND BROWNIAN DYNAMICS TECHNIQUES TO INCLUDE THE EFFECTS OF SHEAR IN ORDER TO COMPUTE THE SLURRY VISCOSITY. CALCULATIONS PERFORMED WITHOUT SHEAR WILL BE USED TO DETERMINE DIFFUSION COEFFICIENTS AND STATIC PAIR DISTRIBUTION FUNCTIONS. WITH THIS INFORMATION, CLASSICAL COAGULATION THEORY WILL BE USED TO ESTIMATE SLURRY STABILITY. THE VALIDITY OF THESE COMPUTATIONAL METHODS WILL BE ESTABLISHED BY COMPARING CALCULATED RESULTS WITH EXPERIMENTAL DATA.
