AbstractPolaris Sensor Technologies proposes a Phase I study to design a novel Multi-Spectral Imaging Polarimeter (MSIP) capable of simultaneously collecting spectral and polarimetric data products in high resolution at frame rates in excess of 200Hz. The MSIP will enable collecting target signatures for fast events such as muzzle flash, lightning, explosions, and missile intercept events as well as more conventional spectral and polarimetric target signatures employing a robust, fieldable design. The novel design approach is made possible by combining a proven aperture dividing (AD) lens design and the capability to bond pixilated spectral or polarization filters to IR focal planes. The AD lens design replicates an image of the object at multiple locations on the focal plane. By combining multiple spectral and polarization filters at various locations in the optical train, the MSIP collects spectral and polarization data products at each image location in the focal plane. The Phase I study design will include focal plane array and waveband selection, optical and mechanical design of the AD lens system, spectral and polarization filters, procedures for calibration and registration of the replicated images at the focal plane, and specifications for computer software and hardware for data acquisition and storage.
