Abstract
With the advent of the ADAR sonobuoy, new display formats andtechniques are needed to provide an effective Operator-MachineInterface for data interpretation by USW operators. The currentADAR processing is provided by legacy signal processing systems;these systems were not optimized for use with ADAR. ProgenySystem's Phase I SBIR research identified an approach to reduceUSW operator workload and provide effective management ofmulti-sensor data. Our simplified data presentation and enhancedOMI will lead to reductions in operator training time and systemcomplexity.Progeny Systems will develop a prototype system that demonstratesour Multibeam Sonobuoy Operator Display system concept in astandalone computer workstation. This prototype system willcontain the critical elements of the Multi Beam Sonobuoy OperatorDisplay functionality including ; PPI multistatic geographicdisplays, advanced system controls, automation overlays,andtactical system integration. The overall scope of this Phase IIeffort is to associate display issues: data colorization, dataaveraging and interpolation, normalizaiton and quantization, andgraphic overlay, with elements critical to delivering COTS basedhardware and software. This will provide a workstation that can beused for training, and the development and demonstration ofadvanced techniques for interactive visual and audio processing ofADAR sonobuoy data.
