Abstract
During the Phase I period of performance (PoP) of this SBIR effort, we teamed with SYSTRAN to build a prototype Universal Language Translator (ULT). The ULT was built using an Open Architecture (OA) approach, which loosely couples the machine translation software from the ULT architecture. This ULT prototype was integrated into two Army Battle Command Systems (ABCS) for testing, including the Joint Automated Deep Operations Coordination System (JADOCS) and the Data Dissemination Services (DDS). The Phase II effort of this SBIR will build upon the Phase I prototype and research results. SYSTRAN will be extending their translation software suite to increase translation accuracy within the military domain. Additionally, transliteration of place names and military symbols will provide increased translation accuracy. Progeny will refine and continue to develop a ULT architecture that leverages existing translation and transliteration solutions. One primary focus of the Phase II will involve requirements gathering for transition opportunities. Existing systems will be researched, and efforts will be made to find and pursue integration points. Additionally, the Phase II ULT will be integrated and tested with several ABCS systems to prove accurate translation of C2 data, allowing for seamless cooperation between U.S. forces and coalition forces.
