Abstract
THE PROJECT IS DESIGN, ANALYZE, AND EVALUATE CIRCUITS AND COMPONENTS THAT WILL GENERATE SPECIALLY SHAPED, HIGH-POWER PULSED WAVEFORMS FOR POWER MULTIPLICATION OR ENERGY-SPECTRUM MODULATION OF CHARGED PARTICLE BEAMS IN LINEAR INDUCTION ACCELERATORS. ACCURATE SHAPE AND AMPLITUDE CONTROL OF THE PULSE ARE REQUIRED. A NEW HIGH-POWER, PULSE-FORMING NETWORK, INVENTED BY E. A. ABRAMYAN, AND RECENTLY DEMONSTRATED ON A 1 MEV ELECTRON ACCELERATOR, HAS SEVERAL POTENTIAL ADVANTAGES OVER STANDARD TECHNIQUES SUCH AS GUILLEMIN NETWORKS OR HIGH-VOLTAGE VACUUM TUBE AMPLIFIERS. DETAILED DESIGNS AND ANALYSES WILL BE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE OPTIMUM CIRCUIT DESIGNS. THE ABRAMYAN AND OTHER APPROACHES WILL BE COMPARED. SPECIFIC CIRCUITS WILL BE RECOMMENDED FOR FABRICATION AND TESTING IN PHASE II.
