AbstractThis proposal addresses the need to develop a method for automatically designing telemetry frames. The current manual method is labor intensive and requires an expert knowledgeable with IRIG-106, the constraints imposed by the telemetry encoder, and detailed understanding of the mission signal requirements. As a result, telemetry frame designs are typically based on previously used frame structures and are suboptimal. This is particularly a problem as test requirements increase the pressure to place more signals on a fixed bandwidth telemetry channel. Automation of the design process would allow the maximum input sampling bandwidth for a given channel tramission bandwigdth, allow faster design turnaround, and reduce the dependency on experts for the evaluating automated frame generation algorithms and investigate one or more prototype frame generation algorithms. These algorithms will be tested using signal requirements and frame structures used on previous flights.
