Abstract
COMPOSITE MATERIALS ARE BEING USED IN AN INCREASINGLY DIVERSE ARRAY OF APPLICATIONS. IN RECENT YEARS, HIGH STRENGTH COMPOSITES HAVE DEMONSTRATED THE ABILITY TO PERFORM BETTER THAN METALS IN MANY STRUCTURAL USES. THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO EVALUATE THE USE OF STRUCTURAL COMPOSITES IN SELECTED SHIPBOARD APPLICATIONS. COMPONENTS WILL BE IDENTIFIED AND PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS ESTABLISHED. THE APPROPRIATE COMPOSITE MATERIALS WILL BE SELECTED AND COMPONENTS FABRICATED. THE COMPOSITE COMPONENTS WILL BE TESTED TO MEET DESIGN CRITERIA, AND COSTS ESTABLISHED.
