Abstract
Sensor performance for the 3rd Generation FLIRs can be substantially improved by increased simultaneous throughput of both sensor bands in the optical systems. Currently available antireflection coatings (ARs) have optimized performance for either spectral band, but not both on the same optic. Where AR coatings do cover both bands or the entire broad band (visible - LWIR), performance is not sufficient for future combat systems (FCS). This program will address coating optimization for; 1) Refractive Lenses, 2) Mirrors (afocal and fold), 3) Beamsplitters, 4) Cold filters, and 5) Windows. Coating improvement will come from the use of rugate techniques, unique asymmetric design techniques , new coating materials and substrate material selection, design optimization techniques, and precise computer-control of fabrication processes.
