THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO ASSESS THE STATE-OF-THE ART OF COMPUTERIZED ROBOTS TO DETERMINE WHETHER COST/ BENEFICIAL APPLICATIONS CAN BE MADE IN NUCLEAR PLANT MAINTENANCE AND IF SUCH APPLICATIONS ARE POSSIBLE, TO DEVELOP A PLAN TO SUBSTANTIATE THE COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS AND TO IDENTIFY THE FACTORS, IF ANY, WHICH WOULD INHIBIT NEAR-TERM ADAPTION OF ROBOT TECHNOLOGY IN NUCLEAR PLANT MAINTENANCE. IN ORDER TO RPOVIDE MEANINGFUL RESULTS, PHASE II WILL PROVIDE CONCEPT DRAWINGS SHOWING ROBOTIC DEVICE INSTALLATION. THE CONCEPT DESIGN WOULD THEN DEFINE THE ROBOTIC SYSTEMS THAT CAN BE UTILIZED AND CHANGES THAT NEED TO BE MADE TO POWER PLANT EQUIPMENT AND/OR FACILITIES BEING INSPECTED OR REPAIRED.
