Abstract
THE LONG-TERM GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPUTER-BASED TAILORED ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUE FOR APPRAISING PSYCHOPATHOLOGICAL DIMENSIONS OF PERSONALITY. AN ITEM POOL IN EXCESS OF 4,000 ITEMS IS ENVISAGED, SPANNING SEVERAL DOZEN DIMENSIONS OF PSYCHOPATHOLOGY AND ORGANIZED HIERARCHI-CALLY. FROM THIS POOL APPROXIMATELY 300 TO 400 ITEMS WOULD BE SELECTED AS MOST RELEVANT TO A RESPONDENT'S PERSONALITY, BASED ON PREVIOUS RESPONSES IN COMBINATION WITH DEMOGRAPHIC AND BASE-RATE INFORMATION. THE PRESENT FEASIBILITY RESEARCHWILL BE COMPRISED OF TWO STUDIES, ONE DEALING WITH THE QUES-TION OF THE NUMBER OF ITEMS REQUIRED FOR RELIABLE DECISIONS REGARDING THE PRESENCE OF AN ELEVATED SCALE SCORE, THE SECOND DESIGNED TO DEVELOP AND STUDY SEQUENTIAL-HIERARCHICALTAILORED TESTING IN THE DOMAIN OF DEPRESSION AND RELATED AFFECTIVE DISORDERS. THIS INCLUDES THE DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING OF NECESSARY SOFTWARE AND THE APPRAISAL OF RELIABIL-ITY AND ACCURACY OF CLASSIFICATION.
