Optimized Network Sensing (ONS) is a Modeling and Simulation Toolset which provides the capability for rapid and cost effective evaluation of currently deployed Chemical/Biological sensor networks or design of new networks. The Phase I effort will demonstarte the feasibility of such a toolset and determine which software modules best optimize the solution. Proven modules will be integrated in a flexible architecture along with data management and a responsive Graphical User Interface. ONS will be usable by a non-expert operator to provide fast and statistically significant recommendations. Future work will evolve the system into first a sensor system management tool and then into an intelligent decision support aide for the operator. ONS will be extensible to virtually any sensor system as it matures. ONS will be built on a proven modeling and simulation backbone called Simajin (simulation + imagination). Simajin is data driven not code driven which provides the adaptability and flxibility needed to sensor network design capability over the spectrum of facilities and circumstances required now and in the future.
