Abstract
HIGH RESOLUTION SAR PROCESSING REQUIRES A LARGE AMOUNT OF COMPUTATIONS. THESE COMPUTATIONAL REQUIREMENTS CAN BE REDUCED AT THE COST OF REDUCED SYSTEM PERFORMANCE. THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS PROJECT ARE TWOFOLD: (I) TO DEVELOP A NUMBER OF TECHNIQUES FOR REDUCING THE COMPUTATION REQUIREMENTS, INCLUDING: SUB-ARRAY AND THINNED-ARRAY PROCESSING, COARSE QUANTIZATION, AND RANGE PRE-PREPROCESSING; (II) TO STUDY THE TRADEOFF OF PERFORMANCE (P(D), P(FA), AND RESOLUTION) VS. COMPUTATIONS FOR EACH OF THESE TECHNIQUES. A SET OF TRADEOFF CURVES WILL BE DEVELOPED USING A COMBINATION OF ANALYSIS AND COMPUTER SIMULATION.
